New Mexico Firefighters Training Academy

This is a new regional course, the first of three courses replacing the National Fire Academy 2-week Plans Review resident course. The second and third courses will deal with sprinkler systems, and alarm systems. This course, Fire and Life Safety Plan Review is a prerequisite to the other two courses.
This course will assist the student in verifying that construction documents comply with applicable building and fire codes for fire protection and life-safety requirements. Subjects addressed include site plans review for emergency apparatus access, water supply, and hydrants. Additionally, architectural drawings will be reviewed for construction requirements, life safety egress, compartmentalization, evaluation of HVAC systems, exit illumination, and emergency power supplies. The assessment of the need for built-in fire protection systems and smoke control/management will also be discussed.
This course is for individuals who are, or expect to be, responsible for verifying code compliance of construction documents from a fire protection standpoint. This includes fire service personnel actively involved in code compliance and city or county building plans examiners.
